California Domestic Workers Coalition

On last Thursday, June 18, SB 1257, the Health and Safety for All Workers Act passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee with a 5-2 vote!

Despite the many challenges domestic workers have confronted these past few months, our Coalition has continued to adapt, grow and advance the dignity of immigrant women workers. In the weeks leading up to this victory, worker leaders, employers, and allies mobilized to make hundreds of phone calls and participate in digital actions to reach members of the Senate.

On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, members posted and shared their stories about why health and safety protections are so needed in the domestic work industry, especially in the face of COVID-19 and another fast approaching wildfire season.

Take Action on Tuesday, June 23 to Help us Win the Senate Floor Vote!

We expect that SB 1257 will be put before a full Senate vote on June 24 or 25. Please support this historic campaign by calling the 4 Senators who have still not committed to protect the health and safety of domestic workers.

Script for Calling our Senator Targets:
Hi, my name is _______, I live in ____, and I am a (type of domestic worker, employer, or ally). I’m calling to ask that the Senator support the Health and Safety For All Workers Act, SB 1257, when it comes before a vote on the Senate Floor. It is time to remove the exclusion of domestic workers from Cal/OSHA protections. They are frontline & essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they desperately need basic health and safety standards now more than ever.
