California Domestic Workers Coalition

We hope this email finds you healthy and safe. As you know, many of California’s domestic workers continue to organize and lead our movement in a number of creative ways. This year, in celebration of Women’s History month, one of our founding coalition organizations, La Colectiva de Mujeres has partnered with Dance Mission Theater to support a film production led by many of our members. Mujer, Trabajo, Salud, is a “one-of-a-kind” short film celebrating immigrant women domestic workers: nannies, house cleaners, and home attendants. The film will be presented as an installation piece projected onto Dance Mission Theater (3316 24th St) with audiences watching safely from the 24th Street BART Plaza on Saturday, March 27 from 7:30-8:30.

Our members worked tirelessly to bring this masterpiece to life! From writing poetry, creating choreographies, and sharing in story circles, these fierce women have led the creative process from beginning to end. The film zeroes in on the need for health and safety protections at the workplace. And after one year of working at the frontlines of the pandemic, domestic workers are using art to make their voices heard about the urgent need for tangible health and safety protections for a workforce that brings care, support, and organization to the home.

During the event, audience members will enjoy live music, hear women’s testimonies, and learn about the current legislative campaign to win health and safety protections for domestic workers in California. This event will follow Covid-19 health and safety protocols.

Please make sure to check it out if you’re in San Francisco and show your support to our members!
